Modi hails Sadanandan Master’s maiden RS speech, lauds ‘moral strength and conviction’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised the maiden Rajya Sabha speech of BJP-nominated MP C. Sadanandan Master , saying it reflected his “moral strength and conviction” and a lifetime of commitment to public life.
In a letter to the MP, Modi lauded the calm and confident manner in which Sadanandan presented his views in the Upper House, noting that while he may be relatively new to Parliament, he brings with him decades of service rooted in the ideology of “nation first.”
“When I heard you speak, I could see the moral strength and conviction in your words,” the Prime Minister wrote.
Sadanandan Master, a former schoolteacher from Kerala , was nominated to the Rajya Sabha under the President’s quota . He is known for having survived a violent political attack in the early 1990s , in which he allegedly lost both his legs following an assault by CPI(M) workers , an allegation the Left has denied.
Referring to Sadanandan’s display of his artificial limbs during his maiden speech earlier this week, Modi said the moment surprised many in Parliament and across the country, drawing attention to the issue of political violence in a democracy.
“People were unable to digest how, in a vibrant democracy, a hardworking teacher could be attacked by followers of a retrograde ideology,” the Prime Minister said, adding that it was significant that while such ideology had “shrunk greatly,” Sadanandan was now “sitting proudly in Parliament.”
The act had triggered an uproar in the House and drew sharp criticism from the CPI(M) , which termed it a “drama.” Sadanandan has maintained that the incident was meant to underline the cost of political violence.
Modi said the MP’s speech reflected his patriotism , pride in Indian culture , and concern for Kerala’s development . He noted that Sadanandan had spoken about the prevailing political situation in the state, and said people in Kerala were increasingly disillusioned with both the UDF and LDF .
The Prime Minister also referred to the response he received during his recent visit to Kerala, saying it indicated growing public appreciation for the vision of ‘Vikasita Keralam’ . He added that the state would benefit significantly from the recent Union Budget , which includes provisions across multiple sectors.
Sadanandan Master thanked the Prime Minister for the encouragement in a post on social media platform X , calling the letter a source of strength and motivation for public service. He also shared images of Modi’s letter.
