Tensions continue to simmer in Manipur as a mob attempted to storm the residence of Kuki-Zo Council chairman H Thanglet in Churachandpur, highlighting that normalcy is yet to be fully restored in the violence-hit state.

According to officials, the incident unfolded on Sunday , beginning with a protest by local youths over the alleged presence of militants inside the chairman’s residence. The demonstration escalated in the afternoon when agitators pelted stones at the house and attempted to forcibly enter the premises.

Security forces stationed in the area intervened promptly, firing tear gas shells to disperse the crowd and prevent any breach. The situation was brought under temporary control, but tensions resurfaced later in the night.

Officials said a group of youths again attempted to barge into the residence , prompting armed personnel to open blank fire as a warning to push back the mob. No casualties were reported in the incident.

Meanwhile, unrest spread to nearby areas, with some agitators burning tyres in the Tuibong locality near Churachandpur town. Security forces once again used tear gas to disperse the crowd and restore order .

The incident underscores the fragile security situation in Manipur , where sporadic flare-ups continue despite sustained efforts by authorities to maintain peace.
