MLA Rajagopal Reddy enforces new alcohol sale rules in Munugodu

In a move that has stirred political debate, Munugodu MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy has announced new restrictions on liquor sales across his constituency, saying the step is aimed at protecting public health and curbing alcohol addiction among youth.

Under the new guidelines, wine shops will be allowed to sell alcohol only between 4 PM and 9 PM, and no sales will be permitted beyond these hours. Rajagopal Reddy said he had issued these instructions to excise officials over the phone and warned that strict action would be taken against violators.

He also stated that wine shops should be located outside village limits to reduce the direct influence of alcohol within communities. Additionally, drinking inside liquor shops (sitting and consuming on the spot) has been completely banned.

The MLA further clarified that wine shops must not supply alcohol to illegal “belt shops” and that no syndicates or private agreements should exist in the liquor trade.

While opposition parties have criticized him, saying he is “running his own constitution” in the constituency, Rajagopal Reddy defended his decision, insisting that his only goal is public welfare.

“I want to see the people of Munugodu, especially the youth, healthy and self-reliant,” he said. “These steps are not meant to trouble anyone but to improve living standards, empower women, and protect families from the harm caused by alcohol.”

He urged the people of Munugodu to stay away from alcohol addiction and focus on building a better future for themselves and their families.
