MLA Kotha Prabhakar Reddy Seeks Urgent Action on Unallotted 2BHK Houses in Dubbaka
A growing mismatch between construction and allocation has brought Telangana’s flagship 2BHK housing scheme under scrutiny in Dubbaka , where hundreds of completed homes remain vacant even as eligible families continue to wait. The issue has raised concerns over administrative delays , infrastructure gaps , and the risk of public assets deteriorating before use.
At a high-level review meeting held in Hyderabad, Dubbaka MLA Kotha Prabhakar Reddy urged officials to immediately allot completed houses to beneficiaries and fast-track pending works. The meeting, chaired by Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, reviewed progress across the erstwhile Medak district and highlighted implementation challenges at the constituency level.
According to the MLA, more than 1,000 double-bedroom houses across seven mandals—including Toguta, Doultabad, Dubbaka, and Akbarpet—are structurally complete. However, many units remain unallotted despite prolonged delays. In some cases, beneficiaries have been living in the houses informally for over two and a half years , while hundreds of others are still awaiting official allocation. Within Dubbaka municipality alone, around 400–500 houses are lying vacant.
The delay is beginning to have visible consequences. Several unoccupied houses are reportedly falling into disrepair , with damaged structures and unfinished components. Basic infrastructure such as doors, windows, and internal roads remains incomplete in certain areas, raising concerns about execution and oversight .
The concerns reflect broader challenges faced by Telangana’s flagship housing programme , designed to provide fully subsidised housing to economically weaker sections. While construction has progressed, gaps in beneficiary identification , administrative approvals , and contractor payments have slowed final delivery.
Reddy called for a comprehensive audit of all housing units to identify pending works and ensure timely completion. He also suggested that the minister visit Dubbaka to personally distribute house certificates , stating that such steps would help restore public confidence in the scheme.
The MLA further pointed to discrepancies in housing sanctions . Of the 1,081 houses requested for the constituency, only 610 have been approved , leaving 471 pending . Additionally, construction has not yet begun on over 250 units , indicating delays at multiple levels.
The issue comes amid the state government’s push to strengthen housing initiatives through the Indiramma housing scheme , aimed at expanding access and accelerating pending projects.
Emphasising urgency, Reddy called for field-level inspections , resolution of pending payments , and immediate allotment of completed houses. Without swift action, he warned, the gap between policy intent and ground reality could undermine the goal of providing secure and dignified housing to the poor.
