MLA Kaushik Reddy Seeks Swift Disqualification of Danam Nagender
During the hearing on the MLA disqualification petitions held on Friday, it was stated that he appeared on behalf of the TRS party. However, the absence of BJP MLA Maheshwar Reddy , who filed the petition, and Danam Nagender , who is facing the proceedings, has triggered public suspicion of behind-the-scenes political understandings between the BJP and the Congress. The developments, he alleged, clearly expose “ match-fixing ” between the two parties, asserting that both are effectively the same. He further claimed that Danam Nagender’s disqualification and the ensuing by-elections are inevitable.
Huzurabad MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy asserted that disqualification is unavoidable not only for Danam Nagender but also for 10 other MLAs , and that by-elections are certain to follow. He accused certain officials at the state and district levels of deliberately harassing BRS leaders , warning that once the TRS returns to power, such officials would be taught a fitting lesson.
A major political controversy erupted following the alleged illegal arrest of Kaushik Reddy by the police during the Mini Medaram Sammakka–Saralamma Jatara held in Veenavanka mandal on Thursday. Terming the incident a violation of legislative privileges , Kaushik Reddy submitted a privilege motion to the Speaker on Friday. He also demanded immediate disqualification action against Danam Nagender.
Kaushik Reddy said he was taken into custody without prior notice while he was offering prayers along with devotees to the tribal deities at the Mini Medaram Jatara. He condemned the action as completely illegal and described it as an assault on democratic values . He alleged that the police machinery was misused under pressure from the ruling party against an elected public representative.
Stating that the incident had severely undermined the dignity of elected representatives , Kaushik Reddy said a privilege motion had been submitted seeking action against the responsible officials . He strongly criticised the disruption of the sacred Sammakka–Saralamma Jatara for political gains, calling it a reprehensible act. He asserted that the return of a BRS government in the state within the next three years is certain and warned that all responsible officials would be dealt with strictly according to law .
