Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar has recently issued a notice to Station Ghanpur MLA Kadiyam Srihari following a complaint by the BRS party accusing him of defecting to the ruling Congress. Srihari has been asked to submit his response by November 23, but he requested more time, which the Speaker granted. Besides Srihari, disqualification petitions have been filed against nine other BRS MLAs, escalating political tensions in the state.

Kadiyam Srihari stands firm amid these challenges, declaring he is working with Congress solely for the development of his constituency. He expressed confidence, saying that if by-elections are held, he will contest again and firmly believes the people will bless him with victory.

The Supreme Court issued a show-cause notice to the Telangana Assembly Speaker on November 17, reprimanding him for not adhering to the Court’s earlier order to decide on the disqualification petitions against the 10 BRS MLAs within three months. Led by Chief Justice B. R. Gavai, the bench highlighted the delay as contempt of court.

The Speaker’s legal team sought an additional eight weeks to finalize the decisions, resulting in another notice from the Supreme Court. Four hearings on the petitions are complete, and evidence recording has concluded in three cases. The next hearing is scheduled four weeks later. Political developments aside, Kadiyam Srihari’s daughter, Kadiyam Kavya, recently won a significant victory as she was elected to the Lok Sabha from Warangal in the 2024 elections, representing the Congress party.

This unfolding political drama underscores the complexities of party defections and legal battles in the Telangana legislative environment, with by-elections looming as a real possibility. Kadiyam Srihari remains a key player navigating these turbulent waters, confident in his support among the electorate.
