Mithun Reddy Flags Water Crisis, Development Neglect in Punganur

Rajampet MP and YSR Congress Party leader Peddireddy Venkata Mithun Reddy has alleged that the state government is adopting a vindictive approach towards the Punganur Assembly constituency and deliberately neglecting its development. He accused the government of showing a “stepmotherly attitude” towards the constituency.

Mithun Reddy made the allegations while addressing a YSRCP extended-level meeting held in Punganur in Annamayya district. The meeting was attended by a large number of party leaders and workers. Identity cards were also distributed to party members who had recently been appointed to various organisational positions.

The YSRCP leader alleged that the government was preventing water from reaching the Punganur Summer Storage Tank while deploying police personnel to facilitate the movement of water towards Kuppam. He questioned the rationale behind denying water to Punganur and alleged that the constituency was being deliberately sidelined.

Mithun Reddy also criticised the government over the proposed Pepper Motion electric vehicle manufacturing unit. He alleged that circumstances had been created that could force the company to move its proposed investment out of Andhra Pradesh. Pepper Motion had earlier announced plans to establish a facility in Punganur for manufacturing electric buses and trucks.

Mithun Reddy said Punganur had not received adequate attention from earlier governments and claimed that several development and water projects were initiated during the tenure of former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. He said the projects were planned particularly to address the constituency’s persistent water shortage and provide relief to residents.

He further alleged that the coalition government had failed to fulfil its promises on welfare schemes. According to him, the government had not sanctioned a single new pension despite making several assurances to the public.

Recalling the previous administration’s initiatives, Mithun Reddy said water plants had been established in several villages and questioned why similar facilities were not being created now.

Mithun Reddy said that despite facing multiple cases and being sent to jail in the past, YSRCP leaders had avoided provoking people or escalating tensions. He said Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy had urged party workers to ensure that Punganur remained peaceful.

He said those involved in earlier stone-pelting incidents were also being treated as misguided individuals who may have acted after being influenced by others. While stating that the party would withstand political pressure, Mithun Reddy warned that it would not remain silent if party cadre were targeted.

He called on YSRCP workers to remain united and work collectively in the local body elections.
