Missing Luggage Delays India's Boxers Ahead of Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony

I ndia's boxing contingent has suffered an unexpected setback just days before the start of the Commonwealth Games, with nearly half of the team's luggage failing to arrive in Glasgow after their journey from Belfast, disrupting preparations ahead of both the opening ceremony and the competition.

The 22-member Indian boxing contingent reached Glasgow on Tuesday following a preparatory training camp in Belfast. However, the baggage belonging to several athletes and officials was left behind after the short flight, reportedly because the aircraft operating the route had limited baggage capacity.

Among those affected are Sakshi Chaudhary (51kg), world champion Jaismine Lamboria (57kg), Parveen Hooda (65kg), Jadumani Singh (55kg), Kapil Pokhariya (90kg) and men's head coach C. Kuttappa, along with a few other members of the contingent.

The missing bags contain crucial training equipment, personal belongings and the ceremonial outfits the Indian boxers are expected to wear during the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony on Thursday. With the boxing competition beginning on Friday, the delay has added unnecessary stress to the team's final phase of preparation.

Team members revealed that this is not the first travel-related inconvenience they have faced during the build-up to the Games. A similar baggage issue occurred earlier this month while the squad was travelling from Doha to Belfast for its training camp.

The contingent is hopeful that the delayed luggage will reach Glasgow in time, allowing athletes to complete their final training sessions without further disruption before stepping into the ring.

Adding to the logistical concerns, the women's boxing coach has reportedly not been accommodated in the same hotel as the athletes, creating another challenge for the team's support staff as competition draws near.

Despite the early hurdles, the Indian boxing squad will now be focused on ensuring that off-field disruptions do not affect its performance as the Commonwealth Games boxing events get underway.
