Minor fire reported at Chennai airport, no damage or flight disruption
A minor fire broke out at the Chennai airport on Tuesday after a spark caused smoke in a staff canteen located in the international departure area, airport officials said.
According to preliminary information, the incident was quickly detected and immediately brought under control by airport authorities. Officials clarified that the situation did not escalate and no injuries or damage to airport property were reported.
Airport sources said the smoke originated from a spark in the staff canteen and was confined to that area. Emergency response teams were deployed promptly as a precautionary measure.
“Air traffic operations were not affected by the incident, and all flight movements continued as scheduled,” officials confirmed.
Passengers in the terminal were not evacuated, and normal functioning of the airport resumed shortly after the issue was addressed.
