Minor fire breaks out at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant

A minor fire broke out at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant on Friday morning. Officials said the blaze started in the metal pit of the steel melting shop when metal scraps were being dumped.

The Deputy General Manager, J. Mallikarjun, explained that hot metal pieces falling from a truck landed on dry grass and debris in the dumping area, sparking the fire. Thick smoke spread quickly, prompting staff to evacuate all workers from the site immediately.

Fire tenders arrived soon after the incident and successfully brought the flames under control. Thankfully, no one was injured, and because the dumping zone is largely uninhabited, major damage was avoided.

Mallikarjun added that such minor incidents occasionally occur in the dumping area. The plant is now reviewing safety measures to ensure such fires do not happen again in the future. The officials confirmed that only minor losses were reported in this incident.
