Minor Blaze Near Thiruvananthapuram Railway Station Parking Averted Before Spread
A minor fire broke out near the parking area of Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station on Monday morning, but was swiftly brought under control, preventing any damage or disruption, officials said.
According to multiple accounts from railway sources, the blaze is suspected to have originated from a dump of dry waste and plastic debris accumulated near the parking zone, an area that already has a history of waste pile-up concerns .
Eyewitnesses said a railway staff member first noticed smoke rising from the waste heap near rows of parked two-wheelers and immediately alerted authorities. The quick response helped prevent the fire from spreading to vehicles, especially as the parking area is often densely occupied.
Following the alert, fire and rescue personnel , along with railway officials and security staff, rushed to the spot and managed to extinguish the flames within 15 minutes , officials confirmed.
Importantly, authorities said there was no damage to parked vehicles , no injuries, and no impact on train operations or passenger movement at the station.
Sources also noted that the incident occurred in a section of the parking facility where garbage accumulation had previously been flagged , raising renewed concerns about waste management practices within station premises.
Officials further pointed out that the situation was brought under control before it could escalate into a larger blaze, especially considering a recent major fire at Thrissur railway station parking area , which had destroyed hundreds of two-wheelers earlier this year.
A preliminary assessment is expected to review whether improper waste disposal or negligence in maintenance contributed to the incident, though no formal cause has been confirmed yet.
