In a strong move to safeguard passengers , the Transport Department has launched strict inspections targeting private buses operating without proper safety measures.

Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy personally led the drive at Khaja Toll Plaza near Guntur on Wednesday, stopping over 20 buses for thorough checks. One bus was seized for lacking essential documents , while 15 others were fined for multiple violations.

Officials examined fitness certificates, insurance papers, driver licenses, and speed control systems. Emergency exits and fire safety equipment were also scrutinized. Buses with technical faults were ordered to rectify them immediately, with a warning that non-compliance would lead to permit cancellations.

“Passenger safety is our top priority,” Minister Ramprasad Reddy told reporters. “Operators must act responsibly and not put lives at risk for profit. Those violating safety norms may face criminal action, not just fines.”

Authorities confirmed that such inspections will continue across all major state routes, with technology being deployed to ensure transparency and strict enforcement of safety standards.
