Farmers in the Mangalagiri constituency received a major boost on Monday as Andhra Pradesh Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh inaugurated the newly constructed High-Level Canal Lift Irrigation Project at Pedavadlapudi village . The project, completed at a cost of ₹14.88 crore , is expected to significantly improve irrigation access and strengthen agricultural activity across the region.

The minister formally launched the scheme by cutting the ribbon and switching on the pumping system , marking the beginning of water supply through the lift irrigation facility. He also unveiled a commemorative plaque set up at the project site. The initiative forms part of the state government’s broader efforts to expand irrigation infrastructure and water resource development in key farming belts.

The lift irrigation system has the capacity to pump around 250 cusecs of water using four modern high-capacity pumps installed with advanced technology. The project is designed to benefit not only Mangalagiri but also neighbouring Tenali and Ponnuru constituencies. Once fully operational, the scheme will provide irrigation support to nearly 25,344 acres of farmland , bringing much-needed relief to farmers who have long struggled with water shortages.

Speaking after inaugurating the project, Lokesh said the government was committed to fulfilling promises made to farmers during the elections. He noted that the lift irrigation project had remained stalled earlier due to fund constraints , but the government took special initiative to ensure its completion. The minister expressed confidence that improved irrigation would boost crop productivity and strengthen farmers’ incomes in the region. He also assured that more development projects would be launched in the constituency in the coming years.

The minister’s visit turned Pedavadlapudi village into a hub of activity, with local leaders, party workers, and farmers gathering in large numbers to welcome him. Among those present at the event were Andhra Pradesh Padmashali Welfare and Development Corporation Chairman Nandam Abaddayya , TTD Board member Tammishetty Janaki Devi , and Guntur Parliamentary Telugu Desam Party General Secretary Pothineni Srinivasa Rao , along with several local representatives and officials.

The newly inaugurated project is expected to play a crucial role in stabilising irrigation supply and improving agricultural prospects for thousands of farmers in the Guntur region .
