Telangana’s Forest and Environment Minister Konda Surekha has publicly addressed the controversy that erupted on social media regarding her recent remarks about actor Akkineni Nagarjuna and his family. She emphasized that she never intended to hurt or disrespect them in any way.

In a statement to the media, Surekha said, “I have immense respect for Nagarjuna and his family. Their contributions to Indian cinema are invaluable. If my words caused anyone distress, I sincerely apologize. At no point did I intend to insult or demean them.”

Her comments had sparked debate online, with some fan groups interpreting them as criticism of the Akkineni family. The posts went viral, prompting calls for clarification from the public and fans alike.

Reiterating her respect for the family, Surekha added, “The legacy and reputation of the Akkineni family are very dear to me, and I will always honor them. I deeply regret any misunderstanding that may have arisen from my words.”

So far, Akkineni Nagarjuna has not made any official response to the controversy. This is not the first time Surekha’s remarks have led to public debate. In October 2024, she made statements about Nagarjuna and former minister K.T. Rama Rao that sparked controversy, after which she had apologized to the Akkineni family.

Following the October 2024 remarks, Nagarjuna had filed a criminal defamation case against Surekha, claiming her comments harmed his family’s reputation. The case is currently under trial at the Hyderabad Nampally Court, with Nagarjuna appearing as a witness. Despite her public apology, legal proceedings are still ongoing.
