

Minister Jupally Krishna Rao Receives International “Peace” Award
State Tourism and Culture Minister Jupally Krishna Rao was conferred the prestigious “Grand Prize for Contribution to World Peace” by the International Interchange Development Association in recognition of his efforts toward global peace. The award was presented by the Association’s President Moon Yong Jo at the “International Buddhist Peace Conference–2026” held at Haritha Plaza in Hyderabad.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that in a time marked by growing conflicts and divisions, the teachings of Gautama Buddha, compassion and non-violence remain the only path to safeguard humanity. He noted that Buddhist principles continue to offer solutions to contemporary global challenges.
While accepting the honour, he dedicated the award to the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy , stating that it reflects the State government’s commitment to the values of peace, tolerance, and non-violence .
Highlighting Telangana’s rich Buddhist heritage, the Minister recalled that the region has long been a prominent centre of Buddhist learning. He noted that along the banks of the Krishna River, Acharya Nagarjuna propounded the Madhyamika philosophy and the concept of Shunyata (emptiness) , transforming the region into a global centre of knowledge. He described sites such as Phanigiri, Nelakondapalli, and Dhulikatta as not just archaeological locations but symbols of the region’s illustrious civilisation.
The Minister further stated that under the Chief Minister’s leadership, the government is committed to positioning Telangana prominently on the global Buddhist tourism map . He highlighted ongoing efforts to preserve and develop key heritage sites, including the 274-acre Buddhavanam project near Nagarjuna Sagar, as well as Phanigiri, Nelakondapalli, Dhulikatta, and Kotilingala. Plans are underway to create a world-class Buddhist tourism circuit with modern amenities.
He expressed confidence that the conference would open new avenues for achieving world peace .
The conference was attended by dignitaries including Sri Lanka’s Minister for Buddha Sasana Prof. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi , Vietnam representative Dr. Thich Nhat Tu , Buddhavanam Project Special Officer Mallepalli Laxmaiah , Archaeology Department Director Arjun Rao , Conference Convenor Shivanagi Reddy , and 150 delegates from 22 countries .
