BC Roads and Buildings Minister Janardhan Reddy on Friday reviewed the Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for the expansion of the Machilipatnam-Vijayawada National Highway to six lanes. The meeting took place at the R&B office in the Secretariat, Amaravati.

During the review, the minister sought clarifications from NHAI officials on feedback collected from stakeholders, including public representatives and district collectors, in a recent consultation meeting.

Minister Janardhan Reddy expressed concern that the proposed DPR did not include any underpasses or flyovers between Benz Circle and the planned Outer Ring Road (ORR). He directed NHAI to consider suggestions from local representatives and collectors while addressing this gap.

Additionally, public representatives and district officials suggested that if a metro rail is planned in the future between Vijayawada and Penamaluru, the six-lane highway should be designed as a double-decker structure to accommodate it. The minister instructed NHAI to take these recommendations into account.

Vijayawada Project Director of NHAI, Vidyasagar, presented the full DPR details to the minister through a video presentation.
