Minister Cycles 10 Km To Promote Fuel Saving Awareness
The Andhra Pradesh government has extended support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for reducing petrol and diesel consumption amid rising fuel demand and tensions in West Asia by observing a statewide ‘No Vehicle Day’ .
As part of the initiative, Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu set aside his official convoy and cycled nearly 10 kilometres from his camp office in Vijayawada to the Chief Minister’s camp office in Undavalli.
The minister’s bicycle ride in the sweltering summer heat drew public attention, with many noting his effort to promote fuel conservation. He said the exercise was aimed at creating awareness among people on the importance of saving fuel and prioritising national interest over personal comfort.
Ramanaidu travelled to attend a programme led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for the distribution of compensation to families displaced by the Polavaram Project .
At the event held at the Chief Minister’s residence, the government distributed nearly Rs. 307 crore in compensation and land ownership documents to displaced families affected by the Polavaram project.
The minister said the coalition government was committed to ensuring timely justice for those who sacrificed their lands for the project and added that, as Water Resources Minister, he was working to accelerate the rehabilitation process.
Reacting strongly to criticism from the opposition, Ramanaidu said it was unfortunate that YSRCP leaders were ridiculing conservation measures being promoted by Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for the sake of the country’s future and economic stability.
He alleged that the opposition was giving priority to political criticism rather than public welfare and said such “irresponsible remarks” were inappropriate. The minister urged people to treat fuel conservation as a collective responsibility for the nation’s future.
