
Midnight Collision Turns Fatal in UP: Two Drivers Burnt Alive in Fiery Crash
A routine highway stretch turned into a scene of horror in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district, where a late-night multi-vehicle collision triggered a massive fire, claiming two lives.
The accident occurred near Assam Chauraha on the Bahraich bypass on Sunday night, involving a Punjab-registered truck , a Haryana-registered cement trailer , and a Lucknow-registered pickup vehicle. What began as a collision quickly escalated when the front portions of the truck and trailer caught fire .
Within moments, the blaze intensified, trapping both drivers inside their cabins . With no chance to escape, they were burnt alive as flames engulfed the vehicles. By the time help arrived, the cabins had been reduced to charred remains.
Rescue operations took nearly three hours as teams had to cut open the mangled wreckage to retrieve the bodies.
One of the deceased has been identified as Jeetlal Yadav (55) of Prayagraj , who was driving the Haryana-registered trailer. His helper, who sustained serious injuries , is undergoing treatment and helped confirm his identity. The identity of the second driver remains unknown.
The pickup vehicle was found abandoned , and locals told police that three people fled the scene shortly after the crash.
Officials said the intensity of the collision destroyed the cabins completely . The bodies have been sent for postmortem , and an investigation is underway.
The incident serves as a grim reminder of how quickly highway accidents can turn fatal.
