Microsoft Announces Voluntary Exit Scheme for Employees in India, US, UK and Canada
Microsoft has announced a Voluntary Exit Offer (VEO) for eligible employees in India, the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada, providing financial assistance and career transition support to those considering leaving the company.
According to a blog post by Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer Amy Coleman, the time-limited programme will cover employees at level 70 and below in participating teams across the four countries.
Microsoft has around 23,000 employees in India, but the number eligible for the scheme in the country remains unclear. Globally, approximately 60,000 employees are eligible for the offer. Eligible employees in India reportedly have until December 1 to decide whether to accept it.
The package is understood to resemble a standard severance arrangement, including one month's base salary for every completed year of service, along with health insurance and career transition services.
Coleman said the initiative would give employees considering opportunities outside Microsoft the option to make the transition with support. It would also provide participating business units with another way to adjust their workforce in response to evolving requirements.
The company clarified that the programme would not be implemented uniformly across its operations. Participation will depend on individual business priorities, customer commitments and workforce needs. Eligible employees will receive emails outlining the specific terms of their offers.
Coleman described the initiative as a new programme that Microsoft would assess as it gains experience with the arrangement. She added that the company would continue supporting employees in developing new skills and exploring internal career opportunities wherever appropriate.
