In a move that blends urban mobility with lifestyle experiences, the Madhya Pradesh Metro is taking an unusual yet intriguing turn. With ridership yet to meet expectations , authorities are now reimagining Metro spaces not just as transport systems, but as venues for celebration, creativity, and storytelling.

The Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited has launched “Celebrations on Wheels,” an initiative that allows citizens to host birthday parties, pre wedding shoots, and filming projects inside Metro coaches and station premises. The idea is to make the Metro a part of people’s personal milestones, bringing it closer to everyday life.

Officials say the concept reflects the evolving lifestyle of cities like Indore and Bhopal , where modern infrastructure is increasingly blending with social experiences. “This is an effort to integrate the Metro into daily life beyond commuting,” said Managing Director S Krishna Chaitanya .

Interestingly, while this idea may sound new, the Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited had earlier allowed film shoots and advertisements within its premises, though largely limited to commercial use rather than personal celebrations.

Under the scheme, Metro coaches can be booked for activities like web series shoots, documentaries, and private events . The pricing is set at ₹5,000 per hour for a stationary coach and ₹7,000 per hour for a moving coach , along with a refundable deposit of ₹20,000 .

There are clear guidelines in place. Events are capped at 50 participants , with additional attendees required to follow standard fare rules. Safety and operational protocols will remain strictly enforced.

While its success will depend on public response, the initiative signals a shift in how public transport is viewed, not just as a commute, but as an experience.
