Metro-RTC Travel Passes Get Massive Price Cut, New Rates From November 8
In a major relief to daily commuters, the Telangana government has announced substantial reductions in the prices of Metro-RTC combined travel passes as a Diwali gift to the people. Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the decision was aimed at reducing the financial burden on passengers and making public transportation more affordable and accessible.
The revised prices will come into effect from November 8, benefiting commuters who regularly depend on Hyderabad Metro Rail and Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) buses for their daily travel.
Under the revised fare structure, the price of a daily combined travel pass has been reduced from Rs 400 to Rs 275, giving passengers a saving of Rs 125 per day. The pass includes Rs 200 allocated for Metro travel and Rs 75 for RTC bus services. Pass holders will be allowed a maximum of four single journeys per day.
The monthly combined travel pass has also become significantly cheaper, with its price coming down from Rs 8,500 to Rs 4,000. The reduction of Rs 4,500 is expected to provide considerable relief to regular commuters, particularly those who use public transport for work and other daily activities.
Under the monthly pass arrangement, Rs 3,000 will be allocated for Metro travel and Rs 1,000 for RTC bus services. Pass holders can undertake up to 50 single Metro journeys per month, while there will be no restrictions on RTC bus journeys during the pass validity period.
Explaining the government's decision, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the welfare of passengers and their financial interests remained a priority. He noted that reducing combined pass prices would encourage more people to use public transportation.
The initiative is expected to make daily commuting more economical while promoting seamless travel through Metro and RTC services. The government aims to strengthen public transport usage by ensuring that affordable travel options are available to a wider section of society.
