Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Case: Court Grants Bail to Sonam, Family Seeks CBI Probe
Raja Raghuvanshi’s family was left stunned on Tuesday after a Meghalaya court granted bail to Sonam , one of the accused in the high-profile honeymoon murder case . The decision has triggered strong reactions from the family, who are now demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe .
Raja Raghuvanshi, a resident of Indore, went missing on May 23 last year while on his honeymoon with Sonam. Days later, his mutilated body was recovered on June 2 from a deep gorge near a waterfall in Sohra area of East Khasi Hills district in Meghalaya, sending shockwaves across the country.
Police had arrested Sonam along with several others, including her alleged boyfriend, in connection with what was described as a conspiracy to murder . She was taken into custody in June 2025 and had been lodged in Shillong District Jail for over ten months. In September, Meghalaya Police filed a detailed 790 page chargesheet naming eight accused in the case.
The recent bail order has now triggered anger and disbelief within the victim’s family. Raja’s mother, Uma Raghuvanshi , emotionally questioned how someone alleged to be the “mastermind” of her son’s murder could be granted bail. She also expressed concern over what she described as sudden changes in the case trajectory after months of investigation.
Raja’s elder brother Vipin Raghuvanshi said the family will challenge the bail order in the Meghalaya High Court. He also raised concerns over alleged procedural lapses during the investigation, claiming that the defence argued lack of proper communication regarding the grounds of arrest. He further stated that the prosecution has not provided them a copy of the chargesheet for review.
Alleging possible manipulation in the investigation , the family has now demanded a CBI probe, saying they are not satisfied with the current progress and want full transparency in the case.
As legal battle lines intensify, the case continues to draw national attention, with questions being raised over the investigation, judicial decisions, and the path to justice for Raja Raghuvanshi.
