In a remarkable blend of history and artificial intelligence , the Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library in New Delhi is set to launch a hyper realistic AI powered 3D avatar of Mahatma Gandhi , allowing visitors to engage in interactive conversations with the Father of the Nation like never before.

Starting May 20, visitors to the Pradhanmantri Sanghralaya will be able to experience a life sized digital recreation of Gandhi through an advanced “HoloBox” installation designed to simulate natural conversation and human presence. The initiative marks another major technological leap by the museum in making India’s political and democratic history more immersive and engaging for younger generations.

Officials said the exhibit has been developed using cutting edge artificial intelligence and holographic technology to create a deeply interactive experience. The avatar is expected to respond to visitors in real time, offering insights into Gandhi’s life, ideals, and role in India’s freedom movement.

This will be the third AI powered HoloBox installation at the museum. Earlier, similar interactive avatars of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and former President APJ Abdul Kalam were introduced and received strong public response. Museum authorities have also confirmed that a digital avatar of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will soon be added to the collection.

Director of the Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library, Ashwani Lohani , said the project reflects the institution’s commitment to presenting India’s political legacy in innovative ways. According to him, the museum is increasingly using AI based experiences to make historical storytelling more dynamic, accessible, and meaningful for visitors.

The initiative also highlights how museums in India are rapidly embracing modern technology to preserve and communicate history. By combining immersive digital tools with iconic national figures, the museum aims to transform passive viewing into active participation, especially for students and young audiences.

With the launch of the Gandhi HoloBox , the museum is not just displaying history — it is attempting to make visitors feel as though they are standing face to face with one of the most influential leaders of the modern world.
