
Medical staff attendance reaches 99.1% during emergency response
The State Government of Andhra Pradesh was credited with effective disaster management measures during the recent Cyclone Montha, which caused heavy rains and strong winds across several coastal districts. The administration’s preparedness and advance planning were cited as key reasons for minimizing the impact of the cyclone.
It was stated that the state’s Real Time Governance System (RTGS) played a crucial role in coordinating the preventive measures and emergency response. According to officials, district administrations were instructed through RTGS to monitor rainfall, water inflows, and evacuation activities in vulnerable areas. These directions were said to have enabled timely action and better coordination between departments.
The proactive approach of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was acknowledged by several officials, who stated that prior warnings and real-time monitoring helped reduce the extent of damage. Sources in the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) confirmed that the early alerts and inter-departmental coordination were implemented effectively.
However, it was also observed that certain areas in the coastal and interior districts suffered from flooding, crop losses, and power supply disruptions, despite the overall preparedness. The impact was said to have been considerably less severe than initially expected, due to early evacuation efforts and community-level awareness campaigns.
Health services were reported to have functioned efficiently during the crisis period. According to a statement by State Minister for Medical and Health, Satyakumar Yadav, around 99.1 percent of doctors and paramedical staff were said to have reported for duty during the cyclone’s impact.
Officials mentioned that medical teams, ambulances, and mobile health units were kept on standby in high-risk mandals, while sanitation drives were undertaken immediately after the cyclone’s passage. Hospitals were reported to have maintained uninterrupted electricity and water supply through alternative arrangements.
The Real Time Governance System was said to have facilitated real-time tracking of rainfall, flood levels, and road conditions, while field-level updates from district control rooms were continuously reviewed at the state secretariat. Instructions issued from RTGS were claimed to have guided local authorities in carrying out rescue and relief operations more effectively.
State authorities have maintained that the coordinated use of technology, coupled with early administrative interventions, contributed to the successful handling of the cyclone. Independent analysts noted that while the RTGS-based command system proved useful for monitoring and communication, the effectiveness of ground-level relief depended largely on district machinery and local volunteers.
The overall assessment by disaster management officials indicated that Andhra Pradesh’s preparedness and rapid response mechanisms helped the state withstand the cyclone with limited casualties and manageable damage. Review meetings are said to be under way to evaluate lessons from the operation and strengthen early warning systems for future events.
