Medaram Jatara Sees Massive Devotee Rush
Asia’s largest tribal festival , the Medaram Sammakka-Saralamma Mahajatra , began on Wednesday amidst vibrant celebrations . The forested region of Mulugu district is echoing with the chants and devotion of thousands of devotees . The four-day festival , running until January 31 , is attracting pilgrims not only from across Telangana but also from neighboring states in large numbers .
Spiritual Splendor with Saralamma’s Arrival
According to tribal traditions , the first day of the Jatara sees devotees thronging to seek blessings from forest deities . Families present sarees , gold , and offerings to the goddesses and perform rituals with great devotion . Saralamma is brought from Kannepalli and installed on a platform , accompanied by traditional tribal dances and music , with devotees actively participating in the ceremonies .
Geo-Tagging Ensures Safety
With massive crowds expected, the police and district authorities have implemented stringent security measures . DCP Dara Kavitha of Warangal Central Zone confirmed that special arrangements have been made to ensure the safety of devotees , particularly children and elderly pilgrims . Child-tracking bands , part of a geo-tagging system , have been provided to prevent anyone from getting lost during the festival .
These tracking bands are also being distributed at bus stands and railway stations , including Kajipet Railway Stadium , where DCP Dara Kavitha personally oversaw the process . Parents are urged to ensure their children wear the bands at all times for safety .
Smooth Coordination Across Departments
Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy reviewed preparedness for the festival at his secretariat office , coordinating with the Disaster Management Department , Fire Services , SDRF , HYDRA , and ICCC officials . He instructed all departments to work in unison to ensure that no inconvenience is faced by devotees and that facilities and arrangements are in place for a smooth experience .
Using video communication , the minister also checked on ground arrangements , including the arrival of Saralamma , crowd management , and provision of amenities . Authorities were directed to ensure strict police supervision , prevent traffic issues , and monitor basic facilities such as water and transportation regularly.
With a blend of tradition , devotion , and meticulous planning , the Medaram Sammakka-Saralamma Mahajatra continues to stand as a symbol of Telangana’s cultural pride , welcoming lakhs of devotees to its sacred grounds .
