Medak’s New Medical, Nursing College Buildings Targeted for Completion Within a Year

Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha has set a one-year deadline for completing the ongoing construction of the Medak Government Medical College, Nursing College and hostel buildings, directing officials to speed up the works and ensure the facilities are handed over for student use without further delay.

The minister issued the directions during a review meeting held at the Telangana Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TGMSIDC) office in Koti on Thursday. The meeting focused on the progress of the new educational and hostel infrastructure in Medak as well as the functioning of the Medak Government General Hospital.

Medak MLA Mynam Palli Rohith, senior Health Department officials, TGMSIDC representatives, principals of the medical and nursing colleges and the hospital superintendent attended the review.

According to officials, construction of the Medak medical college, nursing college and hostel facilities is progressing with an estimated project cost of around ₹156 crore. The minister stressed that the works should be closely monitored and completed within the prescribed timeframe, with no room for avoidable delays.

A key concern raised during the review was the current dependence on rented premises. Since the medical and nursing colleges and their hostels are presently operating from leased buildings, Rajanarsimha directed the Health Department Secretary and the Director of Medical Education (DME) to ensure that students have access to all essential facilities.

He also asked the DME to personally inspect the college and hostel premises in Medak and assess whether the existing arrangements are adequate. If necessary, officials have been instructed to identify alternative rental buildings with better facilities and shift the hostels to those locations to improve the living conditions of students until the permanent infrastructure is ready.

The minister also indicated that the government would soon sanction new buildings for the Medak Government General Hospital, which is currently operating from an old structure.

Meanwhile, there was progress on another healthcare education project in the region. TGMSIDC's engineering wing informed the minister that the Sangareddy Nursing College building, constructed at an estimated cost of ₹40 crore, is ready for inauguration.
