MCD Surveys Over 30 Lakh Houses in Delhi, Identifies 81 as Dangerous
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has identified 81 houses as dangerous and issued repair advisories for 553 others after surveying more than 30.6 lakh houses across the national capital, according to an official report.
The report, dated October 12, stated that the civic body had surveyed 30,66,188 houses out of a total of 32,55,909, covering 94.17 per cent of the listed properties. A total of 1,89,721 houses are yet to be surveyed.
Of the 81 houses declared dangerous, 55 fall under the maintenance category, while 26 have been classified under the building category, the report said.
The survey also identified 553 houses requiring repairs, including 462 under the maintenance category and 91 under the building category.
According to the consolidated data submitted by the MCD's various zones, 63 houses have been sealed, while demolition action has been carried out in 58 cases. Courts have stayed action in four cases.
The report includes cases in which property owners have been directed to undertake repairs, dangerous portions of buildings have been removed, or demolition proceedings have been initiated. In some instances, further action remains pending due to court orders.
The civic body has also flagged eight MCD staff quarters at Harijan Basti near Delhi Gate as dangerous and dilapidated. The quarters were allotted around 25 to 30 years ago, the report stated.
Concerned officials have been instructed to get the staff quarters vacated in the interest of public safety. A reminder was also issued following the initial communication, it said.
The MCD said tenders had been invited three times to carry out the required repair work at the quarters, but no bids were received.
The findings form part of the civic body's ongoing assessment of buildings requiring repairs or safety-related intervention across Delhi.
