Maxwell sidelined ahead of key T20 series

Australia has suffered a significant setback ahead of their T20 series against New Zealand, with star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell ruled out due to a wrist injury. Maxwell will miss the three-match T20 series against the Kiwis and is also likely to miss the upcoming five-match T20 series against India. The injury occurred during a net session at Mount Maunganui, when a straight drive from teammate Mitchell Owen struck Maxwell’s right wrist while he was bowling. As a result, he was forced to withdraw from the New Zealand series. In his place, Sydney Sixers and New South Wales wicketkeeper-batter Josh Philippe has been called up, while Alex Carey will act as the backup wicketkeeper. Australia’s squad faces mounting concerns over injuries ahead of the T20 World Cup.

Glenn Maxwell has been one of the most explosive all-rounders in limited-overs cricket. Making his international debut in 2012, Maxwell quickly earned the nickname “The Big Show” for his aggressive batting style and ability to score at a rapid pace. Alongside his batting, his off-spin bowling and exceptional fielding make him a versatile asset for any team. The three-match T20 series between Australia and New Zealand begins today, with matches scheduled on October 1, 3, and 4 at Mount Maunganui. India will tour Australia starting October 19 for three ODIs and five T20s, with the T20 series set to begin on October 25, further testing Australia’s squad depth.
