Massive Weather Shift in Kerala! Heavy Rain Brings Relief as IMD Warns of Bigger Showers Ahead

Heavy rain swept across several parts of Kerala on Friday, bringing much-needed relief from the sweltering weather that had gripped the state over the past few days. The showers also offered temporary respite to residents who had been struggling with repeated power cuts amid the intense heat.

As rainfall intensified in many regions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for the districts of Thrissur, Kannur and Kasaragod , warning of the possibility of very heavy rainfall . A yellow alert was also issued for eight other districts, indicating the likelihood of heavy rain.

According to the weather department, the wet spell is expected to continue over the weekend. For Saturday, yellow alerts have been issued for the northern districts of Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod , where heavy rainfall is likely.

The IMD defines an orange alert as rainfall ranging between 115 mm and 204 mm , while a yellow alert indicates rainfall between 64 mm and 115 mm . These alerts are intended to help local authorities and residents prepare for adverse weather conditions.

The weather agency has also forecast rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds with speeds of 30 to 40 kmph at isolated places across Kerala between Friday and Sunday . Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain cautious, especially in locations prone to waterlogging, falling trees and localized disruptions.

The arrival of widespread rain marks a significant change in Kerala's recent weather pattern, which had been dominated by unusually hot and humid conditions. While the showers have brought welcome relief from the oppressive heat, authorities are closely monitoring the situation as more rainfall is expected over the coming days.
