Massive Narcotics Bust at Indo-Nepal Border: 327 Kg Ganja Seized in UP
In a significant crackdown on cross-border drug trafficking, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has seized over 327 kilograms of marijuana and arrested a suspected carrier near the Indo-Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district.
The arrest was made early Sunday morning following a specific intelligence input , highlighting the growing concern over narcotics smuggling through porous border regions. The accused, identified as Ranjeet Giri , a resident of Bihar, was intercepted while transporting the contraband in a truck.
Officials revealed that the seized narcotics are valued at over ₹20 crore in the international market , indicating the scale and sophistication of the operation. According to SSB Assistant Commandant Dinesh Chandra Biswas, Giri is believed to be part of a larger drug distribution network , operating across state and international borders.
While Giri was successfully apprehended, another suspect managed to escape , prompting authorities to launch an intensive search operation. Investigators suspect that the arrested individual was acting as a carrier within a well-organized trafficking chain , possibly linking suppliers in Nepal to distribution points across India.
Preliminary interrogation suggests that the consignment originated from Nepal , a route often flagged by enforcement agencies for illegal narcotics movement. The accused has since been handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for further investigation.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act , and officials are now focusing on unraveling the wider network behind the operation.
This seizure once again underscores the persistent challenge of cross-border drug trafficking and the critical role of border forces in intercepting illegal consignments before they reach deeper into the country.
