Massive fire erupts in scrap warehouse in Rajasthan’s Bhiwadi
A massive fire broke out at a scrap warehouse in Rajasthan’s Khairthal-Tijara district early on Saturday, triggering panic among residents in surrounding residential and industrial areas, officials said.
The blaze erupted around dawn at a scrap godown near Champion Chowk in Bhiwadi town , where large quantities of highly inflammable scrap material , including plastic, iron and rubber, were stored. The presence of combustible items caused the flames to spread rapidly, sending thick plumes of black smoke billowing into the sky and visible from several kilometres away. Repeated loud sounds from bursting metal containers inside the premises intensified fear among locals, prompting many families to step out of their homes in haste.
Fire officer Raju Khan said around half a dozen fire tenders were rushed to the spot soon after the incident was reported. Firefighters faced major challenges in controlling the blaze due to the intensity of the flames and the nature of the stored materials. Continuous water spraying for several hours was required to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby warehouses and residential buildings.
As a precaution, police evacuated people from nearby localities and temporarily diverted traffic in the area, causing brief disruptions. Power supply to adjoining industrial units was also cut to avoid further hazards. Officials confirmed that no casualties have been reported so far .
Authorities have launched a probe to determine the cause of the fire. Preliminary assessments indicate a possible short circuit, though officials said all angles, including negligence and safety lapses, are being examined. A detailed technical inspection will be conducted once the debris cools down, they added.
The incident comes days after a major fire at a firecracker factory in Bhiwadi, raising renewed concerns over industrial safety standards and regulatory compliance across the region.
