More than 150 people fell ill after attending a wedding ceremony in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, officials said on Tuesday, in a suspected case of food poisoning.

The incident occurred in Pator Timung village under the Bokoliaghat area , where guests began experiencing symptoms such as stomach ache, vomiting, and dysentery a few hours after consuming food served at the event on Monday.

According to local health authorities, all affected individuals were initially taken to the Bokoliaghat Primary Health Centre for treatment. Most patients are reported to be in stable condition and are undergoing medical care at the facility. However, two individuals, including a child, developed severe complications and were referred to Diphu Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment.

Officials said the exact cause of the illness has not yet been confirmed, though food contamination is strongly suspected. Samples of the food served at the wedding are expected to be examined as part of the investigation.

Authorities have launched an inquiry into the incident to determine the source of contamination and to assess whether proper food safety protocols were followed during the event.

Further details are awaited as health teams continue to monitor the condition of those affected.
