Maritime board approves ₹72 Lakh compensation for cyclone-hit fishermen

The Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board has approved ₹72 lakh in compensation for 26 boat owners who suffered losses in the Uppada region due to the recent ‘Montha’ cyclone.

State Minister for Maritime Affairs BC Janardhan Reddy, during the 20th review meeting of the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited at the board’s Mangalagiri office, directed officials to accelerate the development of maritime infrastructure across the state. Officials also briefed the minister on progress made since the previous meeting.

Highlighting the need for enhanced safety measures for fishermen during cyclones, the minister emphasized timely warnings and the deployment of police support whenever necessary. He also suggested appointing “safeguard personnel” at popular beaches, particularly during peak tourist periods such as Karthika month, to ensure the safety of visitors.

In addition, officials were instructed to provide immediate assistance to aqua farmers affected by the cyclone, including on-site support in coastal areas.

The meeting was attended by Maritime Board Chairman Damacharla Satya and other senior officials.
