According to the US State Department , Rubio will attend the ASEAN Post-Ministerial Conference , the East Asia Summit (EAS) Foreign Ministers' Meeting , and the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) . These forums bring together ASEAN member states and major powers, including India, the United States, China, Japan, Australia, South Korea, Russia, and the European Union , to discuss regional security, economic cooperation, and emerging geopolitical challenges.

State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said the visit will demonstrate the tangible benefits of the US-ASEAN partnership while deepening Washington's comprehensive strategic partnership with the Philippines , a key treaty ally in Southeast Asia. Diplomatic observers believe Rubio could hold discussions with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the sidelines of the meetings, potentially laying the groundwork for a future summit between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping .
