March to Mark the Start of Intense Summer Heat
Temperatures across Andhra Pradesh are rising steadily even at the start of summer, prompting the State Disaster Management Authority to warn of possible heatwave conditions in the coming weeks.
Officials said above-normal temperatures have been recorded since the first week of March, with the heat expected to intensify further in April and May. Managing Director Prakhar Jain said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast higher-than-usual temperatures in several districts during this period.
Districts including Srikakulam, Krishna, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, Nellore, Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur, Kadapa, Chittoor and Tirupati are likely to experience rising temperatures, with severe heatwave conditions expected in parts of Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, Nellore, Kurnool and Nandyal .
The IMD reported that temperatures in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema have already crossed 38°C , with Kurnool recording 38.5°C recently. Meteorologists warn that temperatures may increase further in the coming days.
Authorities have advised people to avoid outdoor activity during afternoon hours, stay well-hydrated, and take precautions such as wearing light cotton clothing, hats or sunglasses. Vulnerable groups including children, the elderly and pregnant women have been urged to remain indoors as much as possible.
To prevent heat-related casualties, the State Emergency Operations Centre is monitoring temperature trends and issuing advance alerts to district administrations. Citizens can contact the State Control Room through helpline numbers 112, 1070 and 18004250101 for heat-related information or assistance.
