Maoist Arms Dump Unearthed in Odisha's Malkangiri, Explosives Meant for Future Attacks Seized

Security forces recovered a concealed Maoist arms dump in Odisha's Malkangiri district during a joint anti insurgency operation, seizing explosives and communication equipment suspected to have been stockpiled for future attacks on security personnel.

Acting on specific intelligence, a joint team of the Border Security Force (BSF) and Odisha Police carried out a search operation on July 24 in the Jodambo police station area of Malkangiri district, which shares a border with Chhattisgarh. During the operation, personnel discovered an underground Maoist hideout in a dense forest between Arapadar and Ghusumpadar villages.

The forces recovered 32 gelatin sticks, 11 detonators, 500 grams of gunpowder, three metres of codex wire, a solar panel battery, a radio set and electric wires. According to police, the explosives had allegedly been buried underground to avoid detection and were likely intended for attacks on security forces or other disruptive activities in the region.

Police said additional explosive materials may still be hidden in nearby forest areas, and search operations are continuing to locate any remaining caches.

The BSF said it has intensified sustained anti Maoist operations across Malkangiri, a district that was once considered one of Odisha's strongest Maoist bastions. Officials added that security forces have steadily expanded their operational presence in recent years, helping restore normalcy and strengthen peace in the region through continuous area domination and intelligence based operations.
