Mann Ki Baat: 2025 a year of proud and historic milestones for India, says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said 2025 was a year of “proud and historic milestones” for India, with the country’s impact visible globally across national security, sports, science, culture, and indigenous self-reliance .

In the last episode of 2025, Modi highlighted Operation Sindoor , calling it a symbol of pride for every Indian and a clear message to the world that India does not compromise on its security. He said the operation evoked nationwide emotions of unity and devotion towards Maa Bharti.

India carried out precision strikes under Operation Sindoor on May 7 on terror infrastructure in Pakistan in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives. India and Pakistan later reached an understanding on May 10 to end the military confrontation.

“Whether in national security, sports, scientific innovation or on the world’s biggest platforms, India’s impact was visible everywhere,” Modi said.

Calling 2025 a memorable year for sports, the prime minister said the men’s cricket team won the ICC Champions Trophy, while the women’s cricket team clinched the World Cup for the first time. India’s daughters also scripted history by winning the Women’s Blind T20 World Cup, while a dominant victory in the Asia Cup T20 and a haul of medals by para-athletes at the World Championships added to the nation’s pride.

Highlighting progress in science and space , Modi said India took a giant leap as Shubhanshu Shukla became the first Indian to reach the International Space Station. He said the world now looks towards India with hope, driven largely by the country’s youth power, constant innovation, and expanding technological capabilities.

The prime minister also noted that the cheetah population in India crossed 30 in 2025, reflecting the success of conservation efforts.

Touching upon faith, culture, and heritage , Modi said these came together uniquely in 2025. He recalled the Prayagraj Mahakumbh , organised at the beginning of the year and concluding on Maha Shivratri, which astonished the world, and the ‘Dhwajarohan’ ceremony at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, symbolising the completion of the temple’s construction.

Modi also said the spirit of patriotism was evident when the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ completed 150 years , with citizens participating enthusiastically in the #VandeMataram150 campaign.

Highlighting economic self-reliance, the prime minister said enthusiasm for swadeshi was clearly visible, with people increasingly purchasing Indian-made goods under the Make in India, Vocal for Local, and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, aided by GST rate reductions and nationwide campaigns.

While noting that India faced natural disasters at several places during the year, Modi said 2025 gave the country even greater confidence, adding that the nation is ready to move forward into 2026 with new hopes and new resolutions.
