Manmohan Singh Statue to Be Unveiled in Hyderabad Today

A bronze statue of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh will be unveiled by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at Wipro Circle in Gachibowli’s IT corridor on Saturday. Minister Ponnam Prabhakar inspected the arrangements for the event and recalled Singh’s contribution to India’s economic transformation.

Prabhakar described Manmohan Singh as an eminent economist who played a significant role in shaping India’s economic progress. He said the economic reforms introduced in 1991, when Singh was Union Finance Minister, brought major changes to the country’s economic system.

The minister also recalled Singh’s contribution during his tenure as Prime Minister, particularly in the areas of development and public welfare. He said it was a matter of pride for him to have worked as an MP under Singh’s guidance. Prabhakar also remembered Singh’s support and guidance for the development of the Karimnagar parliamentary constituency.

Highlighting Singh’s association with Telangana, Prabhakar said his role in the formation of Telangana state was historic. He said the decisions taken by the then Union government and the subsequent process leading to statehood were important milestones in fulfilling the long-standing aspiration of the people of Telangana.

Prabhakar said the installation of Singh’s statue at Gachibowli was a fitting tribute to his services and expressed appreciation for Revanth Reddy for honouring the former Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, the Congress party has extended its support to the Telangana ArtC Workers’ Union (TWU) in the TSRTC recognition union elections scheduled for October 9. TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud asked party workers across depots, districts, cities and Assembly constituencies to support the union.

He also directed party cadres not to encourage other unions and appointed TPCC vice-president and former mayor Bonthu Rammohan as election coordination in-charge. The recognition elections are being held after nearly a decade, with polling on October 9, postal ballot voting on October 14 and 15, and counting and results on October 17.
