Manipur Violence: Three Militants Die in Early-Morning Clash Between Rival Groups
At least three militants were killed in a fierce gunfight between rival armed groups in Manipur’s Noney district early Wednesday, triggering concern among local residents over the possibility of further violence.
The exchange of fire broke out around 4 am at Taodaijang village in the Khoupum area, a Naga-majority region of the district. Officials said the gunfight involved cadres suspected to belong to rival Naga militant outfits, including the Zeliangrong United Front (Jenchui).
The identities of the other groups involved have not been officially established.
The bodies of the three men killed in the encounter were subsequently recovered by local residents, officials said.
Following the gunfight, villagers, led by women, rushed to the site in an effort to prevent the situation from escalating into further clashes. Residents also used a public address system to appeal to the armed cadres to stop firing and avoid additional violence.
The intervention reflected growing concern among locals about the potential consequences of continued fighting between rival militant factions in the area.
Further details about the circumstances leading to the gunfight, the identities of those killed and the groups involved are awaited.
