In a significant step towards restoring normalcy after the 2023 violence, the Manipur government on Thursday resettled 257 displaced persons from 64 households at Leimaram Waroiching in Bishnupur district. The families had been living in the Leimaram High School relief camp since being uprooted during the unrest.

The resettlement took place under the revenue jurisdiction of Nambol sub-division at Village No. 27–Sadu Koireng. Officials said the initiative aims to help the displaced families return to their homes and rebuild their lives in a safe environment.

Bishnupur Deputy Commissioner Pooja Elangbam described the occasion as “a meaningful moment” for the community. She said, “The return of these families signifies a positive step towards building a peaceful and harmonious society.”

The government has already disbursed financial assistance to support the reconstruction of abandoned houses. The Deputy Commissioner urged the returnees to utilize the funds responsibly to redevelop their homes and livelihoods, emphasizing the importance of resilience and community spirit in moving forward.

This resettlement marks a key milestone in the state’s ongoing efforts to rehabilitate internally displaced persons.
