Manipur Assembly Polls 2027: EC Appoints 11 Officers as Election Preparations Begin

The Election Commission has appointed 11 nodal officers to oversee preparations for the 2027 Manipur Assembly elections, which are expected to take place in February-March next year, ahead of the expiry of the current Assembly’s term.

The appointments cover key responsibilities, including law and order, security planning, election expenditure monitoring, transport management and cybersecurity, as the poll machinery begins preparations across the northeastern state.

Senior IPS officer Kamei Angam Romanus has been appointed nodal officer for law and order and security planning, while IAS officer Hungyo Worshang will oversee excise-related matters.

Konsam Binku will handle election expenditure monitoring, while Khumanthem Diana has been assigned responsibility for transport management. Other officers will oversee computerisation, cybersecurity, communication planning and additional election-related arrangements.

The appointments follow a visit by senior Election Commission officials to Imphal last week to assess election preparedness across all 16 districts of Manipur.

The preparations are beginning months ahead of the polls because the current Manipur Assembly’s five-year term is scheduled to end on March 13, 2027. The next election must be conducted before the term expires, making advance planning essential for the smooth management of the electoral process.

The Commission’s preparations will involve coordinating administrative departments, reviewing security arrangements, updating electoral rolls and ensuring that polling infrastructure is ready.

While February-March 2027 is the expected election period, the Election Commission has not yet announced the official polling dates.
