Mango Farmer’s Debt Crisis Ends in Shocking Family Tragedy
A devastating family tragedy linked to mounting debt , financial distress , and emotional trauma has shaken Salkilapur village in Telangana’s Wanaparthy district.
Narasimha, a 40-year-old farmer who had leased nearly 50 acres of mango orchards, was found dead along with his wife Hemalatha and their two children in the early hours of Wednesday. Police suspect the incident was driven by severe economic pressure and prolonged mental strain.
The family had been living at the orchard while managing the cultivation. Despite investing heavily in the farm, the returns reportedly failed to meet expectations. Narasimha is believed to have borrowed between ₹60 lakh and ₹1 crore , leaving the family trapped in a worsening financial crisis. Ongoing health problems reportedly added to their struggles.
According to investigators, Narasimha allegedly drowned his wife and children in a water sump located on the farm before dying by suicide nearby. The discovery left villagers shocked and heartbroken, especially after locals noticed the young boy’s hands had been tied.
Police shifted the bodies for postmortem examinations and began collecting evidence from the scene. Preliminary findings suggest the victims died due to drowning, though officials said the final cause of death would be confirmed after forensic reports are completed.
During the investigation, police recovered a selfie video allegedly recorded by Narasimha shortly before the incident. In the recording, he reportedly spoke about relentless pressure from lenders demanding repayment of loans. Sources said he also mentioned the names of three individuals whom he blamed for harassment connected to the debts.
Authorities have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The tragedy has left the entire village in mourning, once again drawing attention to the intense financial pressures faced by struggling farming families.
