Mandhana-Led India Eye T20I Series Sweep Against Zimbabwe
India will aim to complete a 3-0 series sweep against Zimbabwe in the third and final women's T20I today after taking an unassailable 2-0 lead. With the batting unit regaining form, captain Smriti Mandhana will look to extend the team's winning streak and build momentum ahead of upcoming international assignments.
India faced an early challenge in the opening match when Zimbabwe reduced the hosts to 19/4 while defending a modest total of 114. However, Deepti Sharma and young all-rounder Niki Prasad helped India recover. Making her senior international debut, the 20-year-old Niki remained unbeaten on 39 to guide India to victory.
Niki continued her impressive performance in the second T20I, claiming two wickets for just seven runs. Mandhana led from the front with an unbeaten 47 off 25 balls, while Shafali Verma smashed 55 off 25 deliveries as India secured a nine-wicket victory on Sunday.
Mandhana's return to form is a significant boost for India. Over the past three years, she has scored two centuries and 15 half-centuries in T20Is, with her strike rate in 2026 climbing above 150. Shafali has accumulated 922 runs at a strike rate of 165.52 this year, making the opening partnership crucial to India's plans.
India will also assess the No. 3 position, where Anushka Sharma has received an opportunity following Jemimah Rodrigues' injury. After scoring just four runs in the first match, Anushka will hope to make a stronger impression in the final game.
Niki, captain of India's 2025 Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup-winning team, credited the positive dressing-room atmosphere under Mandhana for helping her settle into the senior side.
Zimbabwe enter the contest after recording their first-ever ODI victory over the West Indies in September. However, they have lost all 20 of their T20I matches in 2026. Opener Kelis Ndhlovu and off-spinner Nyasha Gwanzura, who troubled India's top order in the first match, will be key to the visitors' hopes of securing a victory.
The third T20I begins at 7 PM IST today in Raipur.
