A 31 year old man was brutally murdered on a busy road in Nalasopara following a suspected gang rivalry attack , police said.

The incident took place in Maharashtra’s Palghar district late Friday night. The victim, Shubham Mishra , a resident of Gala Nagar in Nalasopara East, was travelling in an autorickshaw when a group of men allegedly intercepted the vehicle.

According to police, the accused stopped the rickshaw on the pretext of asking for cigarettes before forcibly dragging him out. CCTV footage of the assault, now viral on social media, shows the attackers stabbing him and hitting him with heavy stones in full public view.

Mishra sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died around midnight.

Preliminary investigation suggests the attack may have stemmed from a dispute at a local bar and could be linked to an ongoing rival gang enmity .

The Nalasopara police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including murder and criminal conspiracy . One accused has been taken into custody, while a search is underway to trace others involved.

The public nature of the killing triggered tension in the area, prompting increased police deployment to maintain law and order.
