Man injects his HIV-positive blood into woman after she refuses to marry him

A 24‑year‑old man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly injecting HIV‑infected blood into a 22‑year‑old woman after she refused to marry him upon learning about his health status, police said.

The incident took place on March 11 at the woman’s home in Annojiguda, Medchal‑Malkajgiri district , where the accused, identified as Manohar , allegedly forced the victim to receive an injection containing his HIV‑positive blood using a syringe, officials said.

According to police, the families had initially agreed to the marriage, but the woman and her parents later cancelled the engagement after discovering that both Manohar and members of his family were living with HIV. The woman’s father had arranged for Manohar’s HIV test in September last year, and upon confirmation of his positive status, the wedding plans were called off.

On the day of the incident, Manohar reportedly visited the woman’s residence and pressured her to go ahead with the marriage . When she refused, he allegedly injected her with his HIV‑infected blood and fled the scene.

The victim developed a high fever soon after the injection and was rushed to a hospital by her family. It was during medical treatment that she disclosed what had happened, prompting her father to file a complaint with the Pocharam IT Corridor Police . A case has since been registered and Manohar was taken into custody on Saturday.

Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain all aspects of the case, including forensic confirmation of the blood source and intent . Authorities are also probing the circumstances leading up to the attack.

The incident has drawn comparisons in media reports to the plot of the Telugu film Raju Weds Rambai , which features a similar act of revenge, though police have not commented on any influence of films on the accused’s actions.
