Police have arrested a 32-year-old man in Gujarat’s Kutch district for allegedly promoting the ideology of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) through social media, officials said on Saturday.

The accused, Fakirmamad Gagda , a resident of Bhuj , was apprehended on Friday by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of West Kutch. According to an official release, he had been sharing videos, images, and written content aimed at propagating extremist views.

During the probe, police examined his mobile phones and found that he had created multiple accounts on Instagram and Facebook using different identities. Authorities said these accounts were used to circulate content that could mislead individuals and encourage them towards extremist activities , including references to Khilafat and Jihad .

Investigators revealed that Gagda was allegedly following the ideology of ISIS , which advocates the establishment of a so-called “Caliphate” through violent means and rejects modern nation-states. The group is known for its extremist interpretation of religion, use of terror, and online propaganda to recruit and influence people.

Officials noted that such activities pose a threat to the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of India . ISIS is a globally designated terrorist organisation, including by the United Nations , and its ideology has been widely condemned by governments and religious scholars worldwide.

A case has been registered against the accused under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) . Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the extent of his activities and possible links .
