Man held for rape of 14-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh

In a swift display of law enforcement, Uttar Pradesh Police arrested a 24-year-old man on Saturday in connection with the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl in Sant Kabir Nagar district. The arrest came within hours of a formal complaint being lodged by the victim's mother, signalling the police's prompt response to a deeply troubling case involving a minor.

The accused has been identified as Ravi Chaudhary . According to Circle Officer (Khalilabad) Amit Kumar , the alleged assault took place on Friday, and the girl's mother wasted no time in approaching the authorities the following morning. Her courage in coming forward set the wheels of justice in motion almost immediately.

Acting on the complaint, police registered a case against the accused under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), India's recently reformed criminal code, as well as the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act , a stringent law specifically designed to safeguard children from sexual abuse and exploitation.
