A 27-year-old man was arrested on his arrival in India in connection with an allegedly derogatory and provocative social media post related to the Hindu religion, police said on Monday.

The accused, identified as Abdul Khader Nehad , a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru , had been working in Saudi Arabia , according to the police.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive video was uploaded on an Instagram account named ‘team sdpi 2025’, police said. The content was described by the authorities as derogatory and provocative, though the exact details of the video were not disclosed.

During the investigation, a technical analysis was conducted, through which the upload was traced to Nehad while he was staying abroad, a senior police officer said.

Based on the findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued to prevent the accused from evading legal proceedings.

On December 14 , Nehad was detained upon arrival at the Calicut International Airport in Kerala and was subsequently taken into custody by the police.

Further investigation into the case is currently underway, police added.
