Former West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Thursday appeared before the Calcutta High Court to argue a case related to alleged post-poll violence and attacks on party offices following the 2026 Assembly election results .

Banerjee arrived at the court wearing a lawyer’s gown and was accompanied by senior All India Trinamool Congress leaders Chandrima Bhattacharya and Kalyan Banerjee .

The matter pertains to a public interest litigation (PIL) filed on behalf of the TMC by advocate Shirshanya Bandyopadhyay , alleging attacks on party offices and violence against party workers after the declaration of results.

According to the petition, several TMC workers and leaders were allegedly forced to flee their homes and were targeted due to their association with the ruling party. The plea was filed on May 12 and came up for hearing before a division bench comprising Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice Parthasarathi Sen .

In a post on X, the TMC said its chairperson had personally appeared before the court in connection with what it described as widespread post-poll violence allegedly carried out by the BJP in West Bengal.

The party further said Banerjee “never abandons the people of Bengal in their hour of need” and continues to fight for truth, justice, and constitutional values , adding that she stands firm against the “politics of hatred”.

The BJP has not yet issued any response to the allegations raised in the petition or the statements made by the TMC.
