Make EV Adoption a Mass Movement Across Andhra Pradesh: CM Chandrababu

In a major push towards sustainable transportation and energy conservation , the Andhra Pradesh government is preparing an ambitious roadmap to expand the use of electric vehicles (EVs) across the state. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to transform electric mobility into a mass movement and strengthen the state’s eco-friendly transport network.

During a high-level video conference held at the State Secretariat with senior officials and EV manufacturing companies, the Chief Minister reviewed plans related to EV adoption and the expansion of charging infrastructure across Andhra Pradesh. He issued several key directives aimed at accelerating the transition towards green mobility.

As part of the first phase, the government has decided to distribute 16,000 electric bicycles to staff working in Swarna Gram and Swarna Ward secretariats. The initiative is expected to improve field-level transportation for employees while promoting fuel conservation within the government system. Chandrababu Naidu instructed officials to ensure the speedy implementation of the programme.

To make EVs more accessible to both citizens and government employees, the state is also planning a special financial assistance mechanism. The Chief Minister asked officials to establish a Special Purpose Vehicle ( SPV ) to provide low-interest loans for EV purchases. He also directed authorities to develop a policy that would enable people to purchase electric bicycles through affordable EMI options.

Emphasising the importance of infrastructure, the Chief Minister said the state would focus on rapidly expanding EV charging stations through public-private partnerships . He assured EV manufacturers of complete government support and necessary incentives to encourage investments in charging facilities and related infrastructure across the state.
